Day 0... Pre-Walkabout

OK, so my wife, Heather, died July 10, 2017. As part of my grieving process I planned a "walkabout" - a road trip to Oregon and back.  Along the way I'll get to stay with friends of mine and Heather's from Space Camp, visit my parents and sister and her husband for a couple of weeks before I take up to a week and a half on the return trip with a friend from Space Camp (who I will name later if he is Ok with being part of this blog). When I get back I will be looking for a job to get out of the empty house and keep my body and my mind busy.

I hope this blog will be enjoyable for people, I had another blog I had started back in 2011 that only  lasted four posts.  I was training for a mt bike/run race where I was going to do the mt bike portion and my friend from Kentucky was going to do the run… Only lasted for posts because I injured myself!  :-( I wasn't even training!  I was playing some sort of game with a ball with my 10-year-old nephew. Pulled butt muscle.  Needless to say, the blog stopped because I stopped training. Did not do the race and my Kentucky friend was glad because he wasn't too excited about it even though he agreed to do it :-)

Anyway, now on to this blog… Crazy Man's AR-TORT! (Awesome Round-Trip Oregon Road Trip!)

Initially I planned on leaving within the same week after Heather's funeral, but I keep getting delayed.

Delay #1:  Prior to Heather's death I had set up a weekend to visit a friend in Kentucky who was going to help my nephew work on his Jeep. Nephew would return with wider set wheels and a more level Jeep and I would return home with a sit-upon lawn maintenance device (riding lawnmower).  Instead of delaying the Jeep trip until my return, we just did it the weekend aafter the funeral which was actually the week after our initial planned date.

Delay #2: My 47-year-old semi-sedentary body decided to have a curl-off with my three sport/weight training 16-year-old nephew while in KY.  Hmmmmmm... 15 pound weight... at around 25 I was slowing down but determined to reach 50! I did reach 50; he stopped at 55, about 20 seconds earlier.

Wet noodle? Yes, that was my arm the rest of the day.  Dry, curved noodle?  Yes, that was my arm for the next six days -  straightening it out was painful!  Set up a doctor appointment for day 11 'post-muscular trauma', but I was already challenging nephew again by day 9 (jk, though I was much better).  Seriously thought I strained it and it was going to take a couple weeks to heal.

Delay #3: My procrastinating mind.  Need an Alabama plate on my car, new stickers, and an Alabama driver license but haven't gotten them yet.   I haven't even fully packed and gotten the things that I need! Maybe the ADD meds the doctor prescribed will help – oh yeah I haven't picked them up either, however Publix said it was over $200, so I'll have to talk to the doc Friday and pick them up if it's less than 50 bucks.

I am planning on leaving no matter what on Friday... unless I can't get my car up to code.  I can deal without the meds if necessary because I really haven't been on any long term and I would expect they would help more when I get a job.

OK, so let's see how I do… I'll tell you tomorrow if I got what I needed to get done today before I leave - including finding my boots!  Though I won't bore you with ALL the details.

GO TEAM CRAZY MAN!!

Signing off for the night...
Skippy
